Radio Silence

For months, week after week, day after day, I come to the foot of my Savior to hear a word, a life-bearing word. I strive to listen. I strive to receive. I strive to think and think and think. For hours, I read and read, seeking for a movement, an inspiration. For hours, I sit before a blank page, straining to write, only to be pulled away after a while with seemingly nothing to show forth but lost time.

It will never come as it used to—the messages will never come as they used to. My soul, stop searching for them to come in the same way.

A new season, a new path is being forged here and now. The Lord is never one to repeat old things, rather He prefers and it’s His nature to create new things, things filled with new life and not stagnancy of life once lived in times past.

He ought to be thanked for this gift. It’s not that He is silent. Rather, He is powerfully forging a new stream in a new part of the desert, while my gaze is feebly focused on the previous part of the desert which He has already made into an oasis. It’s true that I ought to rejoice and be joyful over all His previous work in this desert of mine, yet I cannot be so tunnel-visioned and narrow-minded that I neglect having awareness and hope for the rest of the desert. He wants to make the whole land of my life and of my being into lush gardens of paradise. He is a faithful worker in His vineyard. He never misses a single moment of attention to the work needed in my being.

Behold, I will do a new thing,
Now it shall spring forth;
Shall you not know it?
I will even make a road in the wilderness
And rivers in the desert.

(Isaiah 43:19)

Therefore, my soul, close your eyes tightly, lift your heart to Him in openness and readiness for newness, and let Him direct your gaze to His new thing. At the start of this new ecclesiastical year, He has a totally new chapter of life to dictate, a totally new path to invite me to tread, a totally new stream to forge for me.

Our heart belongs to Him who gave it.
